Update on Alf Bryan

I promised in the April 7 issue of Grainews that I would follow up on the whereabouts of past Grainews writers. I made a bunch of calls today, but the only person who answered was Shirley Bryan, wife of Alf Bryan. Turns out Alf is in Providence Place nursing home in Moose Jaw, on a floor called Guardian Grove. Alf went to the hospital last October with pneumonia, after which it was decided he should probably stay in a home. He went to Gravelbourg first, then was transferred back to Moose Jaw in December. He has dementia, and as Shirley says, “Some days are good, some not as good.” Shirley, who is still in Tugaske, Sask., makes the 60-mile trip to Moose Jaw often. But this week the home is in lockdown to prevent spread of a virus of some sort. Shirley welcomes anyone to give her a call to get updates on Alf. Her number at home is 306-796-4680.

Now that spring work has started, Shirley says Alf talks about seeding and other jobs that need to be done. On that note, Shirley doesn’t remember a drier spring in their area. “I have never seen a spring with no sloughs before,” she says. Their son Shane runs the farm now. He wants to start seeding, but there’s no moisture.
